History Park
The Royal Thai Naval Academy History Park is in the garden next to the Astronomy Building. There is a lot of Royal Thai Navy equipment used in history. All of it was very important in the navigation. For example there is a statue of the first Royal Thai Naval Cadet, a Naval Cadets training ship and H.T.M.S. Thonburi ship.
A sundial is a device that tells the time using the position of the sun. Sunlight casts a shadow onto the flat surface telling you the time.

Namtan Boat is a navigation training boat. It was used to fix the error of the magnetic variative and magnetic deviation. When the magnetic compass on a ship has a problem, it solves the problem by changing the error in the north.
This ship was built by Prince Arpakornkeattiwong (Prince of Chumporn) and he called her Namtan Boat to remember the war between the Thai and the French in the Chao Praya River in 1893.

H.T.M.S. Thonburi was a ship in frigate fleet. She has an important history. She fought with the French in the battle of Koh Chang in 1941.
It was the history of Thai Navy courage. We won but H.T.M.S. Thonburi sunk. After H.T.M.S. Thonburi sunk, she was salvaged by the Royal Thai Navy.
Her bridge and her cannon are kept in the Royal Thai Naval Academy to commemorate “The Battle of Koh Chang”.
