things for the NavyThe purpose of this hall is to honor the alumni of the Academy. This Hall is divided into 4 sections:
2. Exhibition of the alumni that did useful things for the Academy and Navy
3. Exhibition of the alumni that have gone to war and lost their lives
4. The room for showing films about the history of
the Academy.
The Royal section is about the useful things that the King and members of the royal family have done for Navy and the Navy uniforms of the Kings in the past. One important thing in this section is the letter from King Rama V that was written at the opening ceremony of the Royal Thai Naval Academy in 1906.
The alumni section includes sport heroes of the past, such as Naval Cadet Sampao Ponlatorn. He holds the Thai land record of javelin throwing. Sport heroes will have their names recorded on a gold plate. There is also another gold plate for the cadet who gets the highest score in each academic year.
There is also the history of the Seaman-Farmer Games, the traditional sport between RTNA and Kasetsart University called “Chaw Rue Chaw Rai” which have been held every year since 1952. The purpose of this sport is to enhance team spirit, and create good relationships among the participants. Another important activity is the Royal King’s Guard Marching. With this marching we join with the other King’s Guard Regiments. This marching is to show respect and honor the King.
The person who first arranged the Thai Navy into a system was Prince Chumporn. He was the first Naval Cadet that graduated from the Germany Naval Academy. We call him “The Father of Thai Navy”. He brought the European system to adjust the Thai Naval Academy, like the system of the commanding.
One of the greatest wars with battleships of the Thai navy was the battle at Koh Chang. This battle was to protect the gulf of Thailand from French trespassing. H.T.M.S. Thonburi fought with La Motte-Picquet battleship and other 3 gunships. She fought bravely without retreat. Even though we had less ships and powerful weapons than the French, we still could protect our Gulf. At the end of this battle H.T.M.S. Thonburi was shot and sunk. We lost the captain and 35 crew. Nowadays, if a Thai navy ship passes Koh Chang she will do the salute to honor H.T.M.S. Thonburi.
In the small room next to The Hall is a room to showing films about history of the RTNA and Thai Navy. It is for visitors from outside.
