The Navy Day Party was held on the 20th November. It celebrates the
establishment day of the Royal Thai Naval Academy. Now it is held in
the 3rd week of December because naval cadets have a lot of activities
in November and less in December. Also, on December 19th His Royal
Highness Prince Chumporn, the father of the Royal Thai Navy was born.
The objective of this party is to train the cadets to organize their
work and to be responsible for their job. Formerly, in the 5-year
curriculum, the 4th-year cadets were responsible for organizing the
party. Now however the curriculum has changed to 4 years, so the
3rd-year cadets have taken over this job. The 1st and 2nd-year cadets
are the helping hands of the 3rd-year cadets. Naval cadets will also
get a chance to know how to socialize at the party and they will also
take the opportunity to relax after a year long of hard study. Anybody
who is invited to the party by naval cadets is considered very
honorable.
The Navy Day Party arrangement is a dinner buffet and there are many
decorations such as lights, accessories and flags. The party is divided
into many sections- the reception, exhibition section, banquet
section, astronomy building section and the stage for performances etc.
The theme of the party is different each year and this is decided upon
by the Senior Naval Cadets Committee. One year the party had an aquatic
theme, another year the theme was a Royal Barge Procession. Every cadet
has his own job; they prepare equipment and works by themselves. There
is a saying that “Every single light bulb at this party is wired by the
cadets’ hand”. Everybody will be serious in attending to each job and
they will work all day all night until they are confident that it is
a success.
Preparations start at the end of October after fleet training in
September. Planning and preparations begin and the theme of the
celebration is decided. Work is organized and is distributed to
different sections in each class. My class was responsible for
preparing the area around the Astronomy building. We decorated this
building and landscape by lights and lamps, made a small park area with
a fountain. We made a path by laying rocks on the ground and built a
fence with bamboo.
The Navy Day Party is very important to us and to all our guests. It
signifies tradition, culture, fun times and happiness. Guests and
cadets will never forget this day and for those who only attend this
day once, they will be left with memories that will last them forever.
Thank you.
