Interview : Commander Warodom Jiankul
Role : Battalion Commander
A: What did you feel when the Naval Cadet Regiment picked you as the
Battalion Commander this year?
B: I’m so proud that the Regiment picked me to be the Battalion
Commander, because once I was a cadet, nowadays I’m the Battalion
Commander of the Naval Cadet Regiment. And we parade in front of His
Majesty the King.
A: What is your plan for practicing your battalion?
B: Practice must go slow. Each week we have a different plan. There
aren’t many weak points in the parade. We have to practice those points
intensively such as the movement of our hands.
A: This year, will there be any special events in the ceremony?
B: This year is 80th birthday celebration of the King [in 2007]. This parade will
be held to suit his prestige, so they added some ceremonies for the
honor of our King.
A: When they parade, does the battalion have any problems?
B: Nowadays there are not as many cadets as before, so sometimes they
will miss practice to do other activities.
A: Then what would you do to fix it?
B: One Naval Cadet can do more than one activity, but the parade must
be the main activity. On Sunday at the royal palace every Naval Cadet
must leave other activities and go to the practice there.
A: Could you leave a message for the battalion and the people who
participate in the battalion?
B: The parade is an activity that every cadet must do. It is the pride
of every cadet who participates in the parade. They should pay
attention, practice hard, fix the problems of our battalion and it will
be the pride of every cadet for eternity.

The Ceremonial Parade of the Royal Guards
The first Ceremonial Parade of the Royal Guards was held in 1953.
This marching was for the King‘s birthday.
This ceremony is held every year by the Army or Ministry of Defense.
This ceremony was first held in 1953 when Field Marshal Plak
Phiboonsongkram was Prime Minister. It was organized to pay respect to
the King and to celebrate the anniversary of the 1st Infantry Regiment,
the King’s Bodyguards on 11th November. There, the King gave the new
colours to replace the old one. The colours is the flag that represents
the King. After that time, this ceremony was held at the Royal Plaza on
the 3rd December of every year.
The RTNA has joined the ceremony since 1982.
Now there are 13 battalions in the ceremony and one of them is the
naval cadet regiment.
Naval cadet regiment. The King's Guard.
The naval cadets are in the 5th battalion of 13 battalions. This
battalion has a squad of bugles, the Colours guards, battalion
commanders, and a battalion that consists of 144 people organized in a
square. We have joined this parade for a long time and every time we
practice so hard. In the morning we run. At noon we practice parade
and we practice parade again when we finish class. We do this again and
again for about 3 months before we hold a dress rehearsal. We have many
instructors. Each instructor will supervise his part. Naval cadets in
the battalion are first and second- year cadets. The third- year are
the squad bugles and Colours guards. Ensign act as commanders of a
platoon, Lieutenants as commanders of a company and a Commander as the
commander of battalion. This battalion is separated into two companies;
each company has three platoons, each platoon has 24 naval cadets.
We practice every day and on Sunday we go out to practice with other
battalions. Our the instructors come from the fourth- year cadets. They
have to prepare a lot of things such as equipment, schedule, formation,
contact with the transportation, contact with quartermaster (office who
prepares supply) about supply, radio communication, they have to
recheck whether the battalion is complete, give all information that
officers need and prepare to service everything to make sure that they
are ready to parade, because every Sunday we have to show our parade to
other battalions and people that come to see our practice. We have to
do the best every Sunday about five weeks before the day of the parade.
