INTERVIEW

We interviewed NC. Paradorn Kempilar, the captain of the RTNA football team.
Q : When did you start playing football ?
A : When I was in Grade 1, I wanted to play football with my friends. It was a lot of fun and my school always supported football. For this reason, I began to work hard to become a player of the school team. I always dreamed about it.

Q : Has your dream become real or not ?
A : I have been a school player since I was in Grade 9. I played in the junior team and my team was the champion in the Mahasarakharm Cup that year.

Q : Which position do you like to play ?
A : I started as a striker because at the time, I was an athlete and my speed was good. My first impression in this position was to score for my team in my first matches.

Q : When you became a Naval Cadet, why did you become a goalkeeper ?
A : At that time, it was very competitive to became a school player. My dream was to play for the RTNA in the Cadet Games, but I was afraid of other players, because they wanted to play too. Fortunately, nobody wanted to be a goalkeeper so I decided to be the goalkeeper and my dream came true.

Q : Why in the fourth year do you play in the defence position?
A : Well…because of the graduation of our seniors and nobody wanted to be a defender, and other players developed in goalkeeping rapidly, so the coach promoted me to be a defender.

Q : How do you feel about being the captain of the team?
A : I want to say thank you to everyone. I felt great to wear the captain’s band, it was a great honor.

Q : What do you want to tell you juniors?
A : Although our school could not be the champion in the Cadet Games I think that we are good enough to become champion if we practice and pay more attention. I believe that one day, we will become champion.

Do you know about Thai football?

The committee of the King’s Gold Cup published new
football game regulations and changed the word “door” into “goal” for better understanding.

This game was the first game that collected a ticket fee: 1 baht for a first-class seat (chair seat), 50 satang for a second-class seat (stadium seat) and 10 satang for a third-class seat (sitting around the football field). For an important match the audience would reach 8,000 people. The total income from this championship reached 6,049.95 baht, of which the committee gave half to the Royal Navy Association and half to the Red Cross Association.

The R.E. 119 rules

The old football rules called “the R.E. 119 rules” were the first rules used in Siam.

1. The winner can throw a coin to choose the side or the first kick.

2. When you have the half- time break you must change sides for playing. If you have got a goal the loser must start. The team who didn’t start the game in the first half must start the second half.

3. If the ball touches a goal or a flag on the field and it bounces back into the field you can continue the game.

4. If the ball goes out to behind the goal, you must kick the ball from about 6 meters from the goal. It’s called “kick the ball from the goal”.

5. In order to make a goal by kicking the ball from the goal, the ball must touch one of the players first.

6. For the throw-in, a player must stand with two feet together and raise 2 arms above his head only.

7. To score a goal the whole ball must be inside the goal.

8. The players can’t touch the ball by hand unless when throwing in, and the opponent team will get a free kick if the goalkeeper carries the ball and walks more than 2 steps from the goal.

9. In order to make a goal by free kick, the ball must touch one of the players first.

10. The players cannot trip an opponent, kick an opponent, run into an opponent and push an opponent. Otherwise, the opponent team will get a free kick at that point.

11. One player of each the team must be a linesman and one referee.

12. The referee’s decisions regarding facts connected with the play are final.

13. If a player makes a mistake in his penalty-line, the other team can choose to place a kicking point on the penalty-line. Other players besides the goalkeeper have to stand at least 3 wah behind the ball.

14. The players who lose a free kick have to stand more than 3 wah away from the ball.

15. When a player wants to receive or kick a ball, he must have a player who is a member of the other team stand in front of his group.

16. If there is a cause to stop playing and they want to play again, a referee must throw the ball at that point. The players can play the ball after the ball hits the ground.

At present the Football History Association of Thailand wants to keep the R.E.119 rules for people to remember. Therefore, the King’s Gold Cup football competition is held every year. There are 3 teams participating : Naval Cadets, Army Cadets and Chulalongkorn University students.
