The RTNA Badminton Club

The RTNA Badminton Club was established about 35 years ago, but we don’t know who established this club.
In the past, the RTNA Badminton Club was a big club. There were many good players at that time. They won the championship in many tournaments, not only in the Navy Games or the traditional sports between the RTNA and Kasetsart University or the Seaman-Farmer Games, but they won in outside competitions too, like for example the Thailand Badminton Championship and Yonex Championship.
At first, there were many naval cadets, so there were many members of the club too. There were about 20-30 members. Although there were many players, they did not have their own court. They had to go to Samrong badminton courts to practice every evening, until they had their own court in the RTNA in gymnasiums 1 and 2.
Now, there are about 10-15 members in the club. They practice every Monday and Wednesday evening in the RTNA gymnasiums and in the Paknam-23 badminton court. There are three major tournaments each year. The first one is the Cadet Games in July, the second one is the Royal Thai Navy Sports in October and the last one is the traditional sport between the RTNA and Kasetsart University in December. This year, we were the second runner-up in the Cadet Games 2007 in July.

Interview

An interview with Capt. Gamalet Im-ocha, the coach of the RTNA Badminton Club.

What is the problem to develop the RTNA Badminton Club ?
1. The naval cadets have many more activities so they have little time to practice.
2. There are only 11 members in the club and only 4 members can play in the competitions.
3. There are only 2 courts, so this is not enough for training.

What is the goal of this club?
It is to promote good health among cadets and officers.

What are the objectives of the club?
1. The naval cadets spend their time worthwhile.
2. Badminton will teach them to be good naval cadets. They'll be responsible and self-disciplined.

What do you want to tell the members of the club?
We should have unity in the club and we should recognize the benefits of playing sport rather than thinking only about the competition.

How would you like to see the RTNA Badminton Club in the future?
I hope that we'll have many more members.
