The history of Royal Thai Naval Officer Cadet Regiment (RTNOCR) began at the same time as the Royal Thai Naval Academy (RTNA). History of Royal Thai Naval Academy (RTNA) began on 15 April 1898 when at the first time she was established in the name of "The Naval Officer School". Her objective was to train and produce thai naval officers. At that time, there was no shore base establisment and the Royal Yatch "Mahajackree" and the "Murathasitsawas" paddle wheel ship were used to accomodate the school. Since then the school had been moved several times until 1903, King Rama the 5th (King Chulalongkorn) gave the navy a permission to used the Thonburi palace (Wang Derm) to be used for the school. After she had moved to the Thonburi palace, the school was renamed to "The Naval Officer School Squadron "

When Prince Chumborn, a sun of King Rama the 5th and the father of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), was posted to the Deputy Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, he modernised the curriculums of the officer school following the education of the Western navy. This included the academic and the practical of the seamanships. In 1906, there was the most important day for RTN and RTNA. On 20 November 1906, King Rama the 5th came to inspect and open the new officer school that had been built at the Thonburi palace since 1903. He signed in the school's guest book as follow:

"20th November 1906, I, Chulalongkorn, have come to inaugurate this school. I am profoudly pleased to see that the Navy has its foundation established in this nation which will constitute a firm base henceforth "

After that day, the naval officer cadet had grown in number and the Thonburi palace could no longer support such number of officer cadets and therefore the school was moved again to Kedkeaw, Sattahip, Chonburi province (currently the rating school). However, in those day, there was still a problem of commuting to work for the instructors, teachers and divisional officers, the school was moved again to at Paknam, Samutprakarn province in 1952 and remained here until today. After completion of moving the school, the establishment was renamed to "The Royal Thai Naval Academy"

On 10th September 1980, King Rama the 9th (King Bhumiphol) gave a permission to adopt the officer cadet squadron to the King's Guard Unit and its name was changed to "The Royal Thai Naval Officer Cadet Squadron".

On 23rd May 1990, the chain of command in the RTNA has changed to the Army style and the squadron has been changed to the regiment unit and hence its name is "The Royal Thai Naval Officer Cadet Regiment (RTNOCR) ".
